LinkedIn Corp (LNKD): Today's Featured Technology Winner

LinkedIn ( LNKD) pushed the Technology sector higher today making it today's featured technology winner. The sector as a whole closed the day up 0.8%. By the end of trading, LinkedIn rose $4.74 (2.3%) to $207.74 on light volume. Throughout the day, 1,949,726 shares of LinkedIn exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 2,857,400 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $202.70-$207.99 after having opened the day at $203.00 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $203.00. Other companies within the Technology sector that increased today were: xG Technology ( XGTI), up 128.4%, Digital Power Corporation ( DPW), up 66.1%, Dataram Corporation ( DRAM), up 28.2% and Maxwell Technologies ( MXWL), up 22.8%.

LinkedIn Corporation operates an online professional network. LinkedIn has a market cap of $20.9 billion and is part of the internet industry. Shares are down 7.1% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday. Currently there are 20 analysts that rate LinkedIn a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and 12 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates LinkedIn as a sell. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its unimpressive growth in net income and disappointing return on equity.

On the negative front, Commtouch Software ( CTCH), down 13.9%, CYREN ( CYRN), down 13.9%, Canadian Solar ( CSIQ), down 10.7% and Veeva Systems ( VEEV), down 8.0% , were all laggards within the technology sector with TE Connectivity ( TEL) being today's technology sector laggard.

For investors not wanting singular stock exposure, ETFs may be of interest. Investors who are bullish on the technology sector could consider Technology Select Sector SPDR ( XLK) while those bearish on the technology sector could consider ProShares Ultra Short Technology ( REW).
