Nat Gas Export: The Next Horizon

NEW YORK (TheStreet) - There has been some increased support in recent years for American natural gas exports. But the latest crisis in Ukraine could be the additional push that the Obama administration needed to expedite the initiative to export American natural gas internationally... as a lever against Russia, of course, which supplies 60% of Ukraine's natural gas and has a history of cutting off supply during conflicts.

The names that we have continued to emphasize are Cheniere (LNG) . Cheniere has two LNG export projects, the Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana that will be completed in increments from 2015 through 2017, and an earlier stage project in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Chart Industries (GTLS) is well positioned as a major maker of cryogenic equipment that's used to convert natural gas into aits more portable liquefied natural gas form... as well as LNG storage tanks and engine tanks. And it's well off its highs.

And for a utility play with nat gas export call option, look no further than Dominion Resources (D).  Dominion is not just a utlility--While it gets 80% of its revenue from regulated activities, it also has a growing nat gas transmission and distribution business in the Marcellus shale and Utica shale ... and a big nat gas storage segment... plus a liquefied nat gas export terminal being built in Virginia.
