Rayonier ( RYN) pushed the Conglomerates sector higher today making it today's featured conglomerates winner. The sector as a whole closed the day up 0.4%. By the end of trading, Rayonier rose $0.59 (1.3%) to $47.09 on light volume. Throughout the day, 752,487 shares of Rayonier exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 1,187,900 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $46.32-$47.29 after having opened the day at $46.61 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $46.50. Other companies within the Conglomerates sector that increased today were: RMG Networks ( RMGN), up 14.4%, Platform Specialty Products ( PAH), up 4.0% and Tredegar Corporation ( TG), up 2.1%.

Rayonier, Inc. engages in the sale and development of real estate and timberland management, as well as in the production and sale of cellulose fibers in the United States, New Zealand, and Australia. Rayonier has a market cap of $5.9 billion and is part of the materials & construction industry. Shares are up 10.4% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday. Currently there are 2 analysts that rate Rayonier a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and 3 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Rayonier as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, notable return on equity, good cash flow from operations, increase in net income and growth in earnings per share. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had lackluster performance in the stock itself.

On the negative front, AcelRx Pharmaceuticals ( ACRX), down 5.8%, Hemisphere Media Group ( HMTV), down 1.9% and Dex Media ( DXM), down 1.8%.
