Textron Inc (TXT): Today's Featured Industrial Goods Laggard

Textron ( TXT) pushed the Industrial Goods sector lower today making it today's featured Industrial Goods laggard. The sector as a whole closed the day down 1.1%. By the end of trading, Textron fell $0.56 (-1.5%) to $37.27 on light volume. Throughout the day, 1,869,425 shares of Textron exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 2,531,600 shares. The stock ranged in price between $37.17-$37.87 after having opened the day at $37.56 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $37.83. Other companies within the Industrial Goods sector that declined today were: Arotech Corporation ( ARTX), down 7.5%, Euro Tech Holdings Company ( CLWT), down 7.2%, Astrotech Corporation ( ASTC), down 7.1% and Tenaris ( TS), down 6.8%.

Textron Inc. operates in the aircraft, defense, industrial, and finance businesses worldwide. It operates in five segments: Cessna, Bell, Textron Systems, Industrial, and Finance. Textron has a market cap of $10.5 billion and is part of the aerospace/defense industry. Shares are up 1.6% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday. Currently there are 3 analysts that rate Textron a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and 5 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Textron as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, good cash flow from operations, solid stock price performance, growth in earnings per share and increase in net income. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had somewhat disappointing return on equity.

On the positive front, Zebra Technologies Corporation ( ZBRA), up 14.3%, Bonso Electronics International ( BNSO), up 5.7%, Flowserve Corporation ( FLS), up 5.7% and Breeze-Eastern Corporation ( BZC), up 4.3%.

For investors not wanting singular stock exposure, ETFs may be of interest. Investors who are bullish on the industrial goods sector could consider Industrial Select Sector SPDR ( XLI) while those bearish on the industrial goods sector could consider ProShares Short Dow 30 ( DOG).
