Skywest Incorporated Stock Downgraded (SKYW)

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Skywest Incorporated (Nasdaq: SKYW) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from buy to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its attractive valuation levels and notable return on equity. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including unimpressive growth in net income, poor profit margins and a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • The revenue fell significantly faster than the industry average of 32.4%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly dropped by 0.8%. The declining revenue appears to have seeped down to the company's bottom line, decreasing earnings per share.
  • The gross profit margin for SKYWEST INC is currently extremely low, coming in at 11.50%. It has decreased from the same quarter the previous year. Along with this, the net profit margin of 1.07% significantly trails the industry average.
  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the Airlines industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 38.3% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $13.95 million to $8.61 million.

SkyWest, Inc., through its subsidiaries, operates a regional airline in the United States. The company offers scheduled passenger and air freight services with departures to destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Skywest has a market cap of $632.1 million and is part of the services sector and transportation industry. Shares are down 16.8% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday.
