Google Inc. (GOOG): Today's Featured Internet Winner

Google ( GOOG) pushed the Internet industry higher today making it today's featured internet winner. The industry as a whole closed the day up 1.2%. By the end of trading, Google rose $13.21 (1.1%) to $1,199.90 on average volume. Throughout the day, 1,812,544 shares of Google exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 2,059,700 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $1,179.66-$1,199.90 after having opened the day at $1,180.75 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $1,186.69. Other companies within the Internet industry that increased today were: LiveDeal ( LIVE), up 25.4%, Tremor Video ( TRMR), up 9.4%, Vipshop Holdings ( VIPS), up 7.9% and VirnetX ( VHC), up 7.5%.

Google Inc., a technology company, builds products and provides services to organize the information and make it universally accessible and useful. Google has a market cap of $329.3 billion and is part of the technology sector. Shares are up 5.9% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday. Currently there are 26 analysts that rate Google a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and 4 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Google as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, solid stock price performance, growth in earnings per share and compelling growth in net income. Although the company may harbor some minor weaknesses, we feel they are unlikely to have a significant impact on results.

On the negative front, support.com ( SPRT), down 10.7%, Angie's List ( ANGI), down 6.8%, Internet Initiative Japan ( IIJI), down 5.2% and BroadVision ( BVSN), down 4.7%.

For investors not wanting singular stock exposure, ETFs may be of interest. Investors who are bullish on the internet industry could consider First Trust Dow Jones Internet Idx ( FDN) while those bearish on the internet industry could consider ProShares Ultra Short Technology ( REW).
