The Principal Financial Group ® announces the promotion of Tim Dunbar to executive vice president and chief investment officer effective January 1, 2014. Dunbar will continue in his role as chief investment officer and retain oversight of the company’s capital markets group. “This promotion reflects Tim’s leadership of the company’s investment strategy as our global investment footprint expands,” said Larry D. Zimpleman, chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Principal ®. “His over 27 years of experience in our asset management, international and capital markets operations also give him a great base from which to drive our continued success in mergers and acquisitions.” Dunbar continues to report to Larry Zimpleman. Reporting to Dunbar are Lou Flori, vice president of capital markets, and Dennis Menken, vice president and portfolio manager for the organization’s General Account. Dunbar joined the company in the commercial real estate division of The Principal in 1986. He was appointed managing director, Principal International in 1997, and executive director and head of equities for Principal Global Investors in 2004. In 2011, he was named senior vice president of strategy and finance. He became chief investment officer in 2012.
