Carmike Cinemas Bringing The IMAX Experience® To Its Tyler, Texas 14-Plex

Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKEC), a leading entertainment, digital cinema and 3-D motion picture exhibitor, announced today that guests visiting its Carmike 14 at 7415 South Broadway in Tyler, TX will soon be able enjoy the world’s most immersive cinematic experiences when the new IMAX auditorium opens on Fri., December 13. The IMAX auditorium will launch Friday afternoon with the premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: An IMAX 3D Experience . As an added bonus, all guests that purchase an opening weekend IMAX ticket at this location will be able to further maximize their experience with a voucher redeemable for $3 off any Carmike concession combo, valid through the last showing of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on Sun., December 15.

The new IMAX auditorium will offer patrons a unique experience, allowing them to enjoy the biggest blockbusters like never before. IMAX’s cutting-edge projection system, which delivers crystal-clear images, is coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, creating a state-of-the-art environment that will make audiences feel as if they are actually in the movie.

“We are extremely pleased to bring our valued guests more IMAX locations across our growing theatre circuit. As always, we will focus on delivering a ‘best-in-class entertainment experience’ to cinemagoers including more premium presentation choices. The IMAX Experience ® is world-renowned and we are confident that audiences in Tyler and the surrounding community will enjoy this immersive cinematic platform,” stated David Passman, President and CEO, Carmike Cinemas.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the follow-up to last year’s box office success The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The sequel will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience ® featuring proprietary IMAX DMR ® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

Carmike’s BigD large format digital experience will remain at the Carmike 14 location, but in conjunction with the opening of the new IMAX auditorium, the BigD will relocate to another large auditorium. The combination of these two uniquely immersive experiences ensure that guests at this facility will have more choice of premium formats than ever before – in both 2-D and 3-D formats.

About The IMAX Experience ®

In IMAX, you’re experiencing a different movie altogether: everything from the movie itself to the theatre’s technology and design was developed and customized to make you believe you’re part of the action.

IMAX works directly with filmmakers to enhance the movie using its Digital Re-Mastering® process, which delivers superior picture and sound quality. Played through IMAX’s state-of-the art projection system, the resulting images are so lifelike and crystal-clear you’ll forget you’re in a theatre.

IMAX grabs your senses. You don’t just hear the powerful sound system; you feel it all around you. Visually, there is no frame. IMAX’s custom theatre design creates a picture that is higher, wider and closer – filling your peripheral view.

It’s not one thing that makes The IMAX Experience but a combination of all these elements. That’s the difference between seeing a movie and being part of one.

IMAX Is Believing.
