Apple, Microsoft Offer 12 Days of Deals

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Both Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT) are offering "12 Days" of holiday deals, this season. Microsoft's 12-day promotion is already underway and runs through Dec. 20, while Apple's begins the day after Christmas.

For the first time, Apple is offering its "12 Days of Gifts" app in the United States plus Russia and Japan. The iOS app (elsewhere called "12 Days of Christmas") had become a holiday season favorite in Europe, Canada and other worldwide markets. 

The app is made for iPhones and iPads and offers a different free download every day. According to the iTunes store: "From 26 December - 6 January, you can download a gift each day - songs, apps, books, movies, and more ...  Each day's gift will only be available for 24 hours." You can ask the app to let you know when each new download is available. 

Apple isn't announcing exactly what goodies it plans to give away but saID different countries may offer different downloads during the promotion.

Microsoft's "12 Days of Deals" promotion are reportedly is more hardware and accessory-oriented than Apple's. Microsoft is keeping mum about each of its its daily 24-hour deals. But Slickdeals.net said believes it has has obtained an internal Microsoft document with "The Complete List" of special items.

Monday's special was a Dell (DELL) tablet at a "Doorbuster" price of $99. Tuesday's deal is a Garmin (GRMN) Fitness Watch plus a $25 Gift card for $99.

Dec 12 - Fitbit Flex and Yurbuds Fitness Earbuds w/$25 gift card - $99.99.
Dec 13 - Grand Theft Auto 5 - $20 (probably for Xbox 360 only).
Dec 14 - Surface Pro combo deal - $100 off.
Dec 15 - Xbox Music pass 1 year - $30.
Dec 16 - HP (HPQ) Pavilion X2 13 (Windows laptop) - $599.
Dec 17 - 60% off SOL Republic Headphones - $40.
Dec 18 - AT&T Lumia 1520 phablet - Free and $50 app card w/purchase.
Dec 19 - JBL Flip Bluetooth Speaker - $40.
Dec 20 - HP Envy 15 (Windows notebook) - $499.

Microsoft begins each day's sale at 10 a.m. EST.
