PetSmart, Ross Stores Report Afterhours Thursday

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Today's buy-and-trade earnings previews focus on 10 companies that report quarterly results in afterhours trading on Thursday or premarket on Friday including buy rated pet products retailer PetsMart ( PETM) and off-priced retailer chain Ross Stores ( ROST) which reports in the afterhours on Thursday.

The 10 stocks include seven from the retail-wholesale sector and three from the computer and technology sector.

The computer and technology sector is 31% overvalued with an overweight rating. Of the 1146 stocks, 53.8% in this sector have buy or strong buy ratings.

The retail-wholesale sector is 28.0% overvalued with an overweight rating. Of the 345 stocks, 80.0% in this sector have buy or strong buy ratings.

The seven retail-wholesale stocks in today's table have buy ratings and the three computer and technology stocks have hold ratings. All stocks are overvalued by 4.9% to 55.9%. One stock is down 19.3% over the last 12 months while nine have gains of 6.0% to 70.3% over the 12 months. All 10 are above their 200-day SMAs which reflects the risk of reversion to the mean.

Reading the Table

OV/UN Valued: Stocks with a red number are undervalued by this percentage. Those with a black number are overvalued by that percentage according to ValuEngine.

VE Rating: A "1-engine" rating is a strong sell, a "2-engine" rating is a sell, a "3-engine" rating is a hold, a "4-engine" rating is a buy and a "5-engine" rating is a strong buy.

Last 12-Month Return (%): Stocks with a red number declined by that percentage over the last 12 months. Stocks with a black number increased by that percentage.

Forecast 1-Year Return: Stocks with a red number are projected to decline by that percentage over the next 12 months. Stocks with a black number in the table are projected to move higher by that percentage over the next 12 months.

Value Level: Price at which to enter a GTC limit order to buy on weakness. The letters mean; W-weekly, M-monthly, Q-quarterly, S-semiannual and A-annual.

Pivot: A level between a value level and risky level that should be a magnet during the time frame noted.

Risky Level: Price at which to enter a GTC limit order to sell on strength.

Autodesk ( ADSK) ($42.34) set a multi-year high at $45.03 on Nov. 15. The hold rated architecture industry software designer has a monthly value level at $40.04 with a semiannual pivot at $42.61 and weekly and quarterly risky levels at $43.08 and $46.40.

Ann ( ANN) ($36.12) set a multi-year high at $37.03 on Sept. 26 then traded down to $32.72 on Oct. 23 and ended last week challenging the high. The buy rated upscale women's clothing retailer has a weekly value level at $34.28 with a monthly pivot at $37.93 and a quarterly risky level at $40.52.

Foot Locker ( FL) ($36.56) set a multi-year high at $37.85 on Aug. 5 then traded to a second half 2013 low at $31.91 on Sept. 3. With the stock near the high end of this range, the buy rated maker of athletic shoes has a monthly value level at $34.75 with a semiannual pivot at $36.94 and semiannual risky level at $39.29.

Gap ( GPS) ($41.24) set a second half low at $36.13 on Oct. 22 then popped back above its 200-day SMA at $39.56 on Nov. 8. The buy rated casual apparel retailer has a semiannual value level at $37.17 with a monthly risky level at $46.25.

Hibbett Sports ( HIBB) ($61.57) set a multi-year high at $64.00 on Nov. 19 after setting a second half 2013 low at $50.67 on Sept 3. The buy rated sporting goods store has a monthly value level at $59.90 with a semiannual pivot at $62.67 and semiannual risky level at $68.73.

Intuit ( INTU) ($73.67) set a multi-year high at $73.94 on Nov. 18. The hold rated software company has a semiannual value level at $71.17 and a semiannual pivot at $74.07 and quarterly risky level at $74.73.

Marvel Tech ( MRVL) ($13.30) set a multi-year high at $14.02 on Nov. 13. The hold rated high-speed broadband products designer has an annual value level at $12.38 with a monthly pivot at $13.12 with a semiannual risky level at $16.29.

PetSmart ( PETM) ($73.54) ended Wednesday on the cusp of its 50-day SMA at $73.53. The buy rated pet supplies provider has a monthly value level at $72.93 with a semiannual pivot at $74.51 and a semiannual risky level at $81.62.

Ross Stores ( ROST) ($81.32) set a multi-year high at $81.99 on Nov. 18. The buy rated off-prices apparel and home accessories retailer has a monthly value level at $79.35 with a semiannual pivot at $79.86 and semiannual risky level at $82.91.

Fresh Market ( TFM) ($48.96) has been trading back and forth around its 200-day SMA since May 29 and tested that level on Wednesday at $48.28. The buy rated food retailer has a monthly pivot at $49.75 with a weekly risky level at $53.11.
