Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ:CKEC), a leading entertainment, digital cinema and 3-D motion picture exhibitor, today announced the opening of its 21 st BigD auditorium, at the Carmike 15 based in Hickory, NC (200 Catawba Boulevard 28063). Opening day for the critically acclaimed digital large format is Thursday, November 21. That day the BigD is hosting a special ‘Hunger Games’ Movie Marathon. The Marathon begins at 4:45 pm with a showing of The Hunger Games (2012), one of the highest grossing titles of all-time. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire follows at 8:00 pm.

Tickets for both features are only $15 as a discounted combo available on Carmike’s website, on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, the theatre is running an opening weekend promotion at the concessions counter for all BigD attendees – large popcorn and large fountain drinks will both be available for just $1 each through Sunday (11.24). In conjunction with the BigD addition, Carmike has also remodeled its lobby with multiple concession areas, including self-service Coca-Cola Freestyle drink centers. The convenience of one-stop ticketing at this location allows cinemagoers to purchase tickets and their favorite concessions via the same line and quickly move to their comfortable seats.

Carmike President and CEO David Passman stated: “We are truly delighted to debut our 21 st BigD and its immersive viewing and sound experience for our valued guests in the Hickory, NC region. Devout fans of ‘The Hunger Games’ are scooping up double-feature tickets and we are hoping for a sellout here in our newest BigD addition. Part one generated over $400 million in total domestic box office receipts and we believe Lionsgate has another successful film franchise on their hands, with two more sequels already slated for November 2014 and 2015 releases.”

Carmike’s luxurious BigD auditoriums feature cutting-edge technology that delivers the ultimate cinematic experience. Films in both 2D and 3D are digitally projected onto a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screen measuring 70 feet wide and over three stories tall at the Hickory location, with seating capacity for more than 570 guests. A revolution in surround sound technology, BigD’s digital audio processing is supported by quad-amplified, 4-way speakers and six 21-inch subwoofers. The custom QSC digital audio system is tuned to a 7.1 speaker array with 16 channels, upgradeable to 11.1. In addition to state-of-the-art technology, the BigD auditorium also features plush stadium seating, leather high-back rocking seats and retractable arm rests with convenient cup holders.
