USAirways and American Airlines Have Their Merger, Sources Say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( TheStreet) -- The Justice Department, US Airways ( LCC) and American ( AAMRQ) have reached a deal that will allow the two carriers to merge, sources said.

"We were just told the merger was approved," said a pilot familiar with the discussions.

An announcement of the settlement is expected to come in the next few hours.

The Justice Department has sued to block the merger, with the trial scheduled to begin Nov. 25 in U.S. District Court in Washington. The two sides have said they were talking about a settlement.
