NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Netsol Technologies (Nasdaq: NTWK) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from buy to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, reasonable valuation levels and good cash flow from operations. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including unimpressive growth in net income and a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • NTWK's debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.10 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. To add to this, NTWK has a quick ratio of 1.91, which demonstrates the ability of the company to cover short-term liquidity needs.
  • NETSOL TECHNOLOGIES INC has experienced a steep decline in earnings per share in the most recent quarter in comparison to its performance from the same quarter a year ago. This company has reported somewhat volatile earnings recently. But, we feel it is poised for EPS growth in the coming year. During the past fiscal year, NETSOL TECHNOLOGIES INC increased its bottom line by earning $0.94 versus $0.40 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($1.11 versus $0.94).
  • The share price of NETSOL TECHNOLOGIES INC has not done very well: it is down 20.04% and has underperformed the S&P 500, in part reflecting the company's sharply declining earnings per share when compared to the year-earlier quarter. The fact that the stock is now selling for less than others in its industry in relation to its current earnings is not reason enough to justify a buy rating at this time.
  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the Software industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 218.1% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $0.93 million to -$1.10 million.

NetSol Technologies, Inc. designs, develops, markets, and exports software products primarily to the automobile finance and leasing, banking, healthcare, and financial services industries worldwide. It also provides system integration, consulting, and IT products and services. Netsol has a market cap of $47 million and is part of the technology sector and computer software & services industry.
