Authentidate Commends Department Of Veterans Affairs Updated Strategic Plan And Commitment To Telehealth

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Oct. 28, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Authentidate Holding Corp. (Nasdaq:ADAT), a provider of secure web-based software applications and telehealth products and services for healthcare organizations, today expressed strong support for the ongoing commitment by the Department of Veterans Affairs to telehealth, as represented by the VA's recently released 2014-2020 Draft Strategic Plan. This plan reaffirms a significant commitment for telehealth, which Authentidate believes will benefit the delivery of healthcare and we commend the VA for their leadership in embracing these innovative solutions.

The VA's requested appropriation for telehealth for the 2014 fiscal year is $460 million, an increase of $19 million compared to 2013. Authentidate's telehealth solutions help healthcare providers such as the VA monitor patient health from the comfort of the patient's own home through the innovative use of technology, with the goal of improving healthcare access and patient outcomes, all while reducing the cost of care.

Ben Benjamin, Chief Executive Officer of Authentidate, stated, "The VA operates the largest integrated health care system in the country with nearly nine million enrollees. Their latest strategic plan is forward thinking and recognizes the shift towards a mobile society and the need to expand our Veteran's access to care regardless of their physical proximity to VA facilities, while continuing to be an effective steward of taxpayer dollars. Authentidate is proud to support all of these goals as an approved VA supplier of telehealth solutions."

During the last fiscal year, Authentidate worked closely with the VA on the rollout of Authentidate's telehealth solutions. Authentidate completed the required test-in phase for its device-based, Electronic House Call, and telephone based Interactive Voice Response telehealth solutions and the VA approved the use of these solutions by VA facilities throughout the country. Following the end of the fiscal year, Authentidate announced that it began to enroll patients for its sole-source VA telehealth pilot program for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) patients.
