Monster.com Survey Reveals Employed Workers Looking To Find Better® With More Recognition, Higher Compensation

Monster.com, the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities and flagship brand of  Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), today released the first installment of its mid-year Workforce Talent Survey focusing on the attitudes of employed workers responding to the survey. The survey found that a majority of employed professionals are inspired and proud about their current company and its future with over two thirds of respondents (69%) feeling inspired to do their best work and 67% feeling proud to work for their organization or company.

Despite the general optimistic sentiment towards their employer, however, employed workers are looking to find better. Their sentiments regarding motivating and engaging factors are striking:
  • Nearly all (98%) of employed workers are driven by their employer’s ability to use their skills and abilities
  • 97% of employed workers agree that salary, enjoyment of work and need for respect and appreciation are all among the highest values in the work place

Though the survey found nearly unanimous agreement that skill recognition and compensation are important and necessary factors for employee engagement and motivation, the results also indicated that many employers are not meeting the needs of their workers:
  • Only 48% of employed workers feel that their efforts are recognized and valued by their present job, while 52% did not feel efforts were recognized/valued
  • 6 out of 10 employed workers don’t expect to receive a raise
  • Less than a quarter (20%) of employed workers believe they will get a promotion
  • 60% don’t believe the company is making the right investments for the future of the workforce

“It’s apparent that employed workers are wary about their perceived value in their current positions and that’s encouraging them to look for new opportunities,” said Jeffrey Quinn, Vice President of Monster’s Global Insights. “Employers should take note at what matters most to their employees in an effort to secure and retain the best talent.”

Important to note, this survey determined that the top five reasons why employed workers are searching for new jobs are as follows:

  2. Better Match (40%)
  3. Job Stability (29%)
  4. Personal Fulfillment (27%)
  5. Company’s Culture (23%)

About the Survey

From the unique perspective of the job seeker, the Monster mid-year Workforce Talent Survey captures the likeliness of those employed and unemployed to actively search for a job, the challenges they face in a search as well as motivating factors driving them to seek out a new job. This is the first significant finding of Monster’s Workforce Talent Survey of more than 1,800 registered Monster users, covering general job market insight and sentiment.

Methodology

Monster’s study “U.S. Workforce Talent” surveyed more than 1,800 job seekers who are currently employed or desire employment in the next 12 months via an online survey. The study was designed to be inclusive of all Monster job seekers who have actively used their My Monster account over the past 3 years. The survey ran from June 24, 2013 to August 8, 2013.
