Expedia Inc. (EXPE): Today's Featured Leisure Winner

Expedia ( EXPE) pushed the Leisure industry higher today making it today's featured leisure winner. The industry as a whole closed the day up 1.1%. By the end of trading, Expedia rose $1.05 (2.0%) to $52.86 on light volume. Throughout the day, 2,144,348 shares of Expedia exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 4,050,200 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $51.69-$52.89 after having opened the day at $51.69 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $51.81. Other companies within the Leisure industry that increased today were: Renren ( RENN), up 8.0%, Century Casinos ( CNTY), up 7.5%, Scientific Games Corporation ( SGMS), up 6.1% and Rick's Cabaret International ( RICK), up 4.9%.

Expedia, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as an online travel company in the United States and internationally. Expedia has a market cap of $6.4 billion and is part of the services sector. Shares are down 15.1% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday. Currently there are 7 analysts that rate Expedia a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and 11 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Expedia as a hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, reasonable valuation levels and expanding profit margins. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself, deteriorating net income and disappointing return on equity.

On the negative front, Morgans Hotel Group Company ( MHGC), down 9.0%, Diamond Resorts International ( DRII), down 5.6%, Cosi ( COSI), down 5.1% and Dover Motorsports ( DVD), down 2.9%.

For investors not wanting singular stock exposure, ETFs may be of interest. Investors who are bullish on the leisure industry could consider PowerShares Dynamic Leisure&Entert ( PEJ) while those bearish on the leisure industry could consider ProShares Ultra Sht Consumer Services ( SCC).
