Yandex NV (YNDX): Today's Featured Internet Winner

Yandex ( YNDX) pushed the Internet industry higher today making it today's featured internet winner. The industry as a whole closed the day up 0.2%. By the end of trading, Yandex rose $0.79 (2.1%) to $37.48 on average volume. Throughout the day, 2,819,389 shares of Yandex exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 2,444,300 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $36.71-$37.50 after having opened the day at $36.94 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $36.69. Other companies within the Internet industry that increased today were: LookSmart ( LOOK), up 6.7%, eLong ( LONG), up 6.4%, Angie's List ( ANGI), up 5.1% and Tucows ( TCX), up 4.7%.

Yandex N.V. operates an Internet search engine in Russia and internationally. Yandex has a market cap of $8.5 billion and is part of the technology sector. Shares are up 69.9% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday. Currently there are 7 analysts that rate Yandex a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and none rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Yandex as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, notable return on equity, expanding profit margins and good cash flow from operations. Although no company is perfect, currently we do not see any significant weaknesses which are likely to detract from the generally positive outlook.

On the negative front, Deltathree ( DDDC), down 10.9%, Remark Media ( MARK), down 7.3%, China Finance Online ( JRJC), down 6.4% and Taomee Holdings ( TAOM), down 5.3% , were all laggards within the internet industry with Equinix ( EQIX) being today's internet industry laggard.

For investors not wanting singular stock exposure, ETFs may be of interest. Investors who are bullish on the internet industry could consider First Trust Dow Jones Internet Idx ( FDN) while those bearish on the internet industry could consider ProShares Ultra Short Technology ( REW).
