TripAdvisor Inc (TRIP): Today's Featured Internet Winner

TripAdvisor ( TRIP) pushed the Internet industry higher today making it today's featured internet winner. The industry as a whole closed the day down 0.9%. By the end of trading, TripAdvisor rose $0.85 (1.1%) to $75.12 on heavy volume. Throughout the day, 4,294,105 shares of TripAdvisor exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 1,690,400 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $74.25-$79.08 after having opened the day at $74.27 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $74.27. Other companies within the Internet industry that increased today were: Innodata ( INOD), up 4.8%, ChinaNet Online Holdings ( CNET), up 3.8%, Facebook Inc Class A ( FB), up 3.3% and Phoenix New Media ( FENG), up 3.2%.

TripAdvisor, Inc., an online travel company, enables travelers to plan and have the perfect trip. It offers advice from real travelers and various travel choices and planning features with seamless links to booking tools. TripAdvisor has a market cap of $9.5 billion and is part of the technology sector. Shares are up 74.0% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday. Currently there are 6 analysts that rate TripAdvisor a buy, 2 analysts rate it a sell, and 11 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates TripAdvisor as a hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its notable return on equity, robust revenue growth and solid stock price performance. However, as a counter to these strengths, we find that the company has favored debt over equity in the management of its balance sheet.

On the negative front, Net Element International ( NETE), down 11.9%, LiveDeal ( LIVE), down 10.3%, Remark Media ( MARK), down 7.9% and Professional Diversity Network ( IPDN), down 6.6% , were all laggards within the internet industry with LinkedIn ( LNKD) being today's internet industry laggard.
