Xplore Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: XPLR), manufacturer of the world’s most powerful, longest-lasting and rugged tablets on the market, and Spartan Race, Inc., the world’s premier obstacle racing company, have announced that the Xplore RangerX will be the official tablet of the 2013 Reebok Spartan Race World Championships taking place in Killington, Vermont on Sept. 21 and 22. Technology is a key component for reportedly the world’s fastest growing sport. Spartan athletes will be able to quickly check their results in real-time on the rugged Android tablets at the event, improving the race experience. In addition, the RangerX will be used on the course to assist the race staff with production and logistics. “We needed a device that is as tough as our Spartan racers and can stand up to whatever extreme conditions we throw at it,” said Joe De Sena, founder of the Spartan Race. “We’ve got all-terrain athletes; now we have an all-terrain tablet for our extreme technology needs.” Extreme and professional athletes from around the world will be participating in the popular obstacle race known for punishing hills, challenging wall climbs, aerial traverses over water, rope climbs and barbed wire crawls. In addition to $250,000 in cash prizes for the top finishers, the top male and female winners will be awarded a Special Edition Spartan Race RangerX tablet. “Partnering with Spartan is a great opportunity to provide the rugged technology this emerging sport needs to improve the experience for its thousands of competitors and spectators,” said Mark Holleran, president and chief operating officer of Xplore Technologies. “The Reebok Spartan World Championships is the ultimate chance for athletes to discover technology that can be as tough as they are. We’re looking forward to seeing where Spartans push the limits with the RangerX.” From the manufacturer of the most rugged tablets on the market, Xplore’s RangerX is a lightweight 10.2 inch tablet that is ideal for use in extreme environments. Designed to withstand the demands of the military but with a contemporary look and feel not found in traditional rugged devices, the RangerX is the perfect companion for the extreme athlete or outdoor enthusiast.
The Android tablet is built rugged from the inside out. It can withstand four-foot drops while operating, fully function in -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and is dustproof and water resistant to survive real world conditions. It comes in at 2.2 pounds and has a battery life up to 10 hours, allowing it to keep up with any adventure. The Xplore RangerX will be available to consumers for the first time this fall with pre-orders beginning Sept. 11.
As obstacle course racing continues to grow around the globe, so do the Spartan Races. A 90-minute TV special airing on the NBC Sports Network on Oct. 19 will feature the Reebok Spartan World Championships, the talented crop of athletes and the growing popularity of the sport.
