NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- On Wednesday, Samsung's ( SSNLF) new smartwatch, the Samsung Galaxy Gear, was revealed. TheStreet's Chris Ciaccia is taking a look.
The Galaxy Gear will be available Sept. 25 in 149 countries. Ciaccia said Samsung is the first major technology company to release a smartwatch, although many others are expected to. That includes the likes of Apple ( AAPL), Google ( GOOG) and even possibly Microsoft ( MSFT). The watch will be available in six colors and is being described as a way of extending current Samsung smartphone users' functionality to the wrist. Its price has not been announced. Gregory Lee, president of Samsung Communications America, said the watch is the first that combines convenience and technology into one. He even went on to say that it proves that Samsung is "relentlessly innovative" at bringing products first to market. -- Written by Bret Kenwell in Petoskey, Mich. Follow @BretKenwell
