Salesforce.com Inc. (CRM): Today's Featured Technology Winner

Salesforce.com ( CRM) pushed the Technology sector higher today making it today's featured technology winner. The sector as a whole closed the day up 1.0%. By the end of trading, Salesforce.com rose $0.87 (2.0%) to $43.65 on heavy volume. Throughout the day, 10,377,119 shares of Salesforce.com exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 5,763,900 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $42.11-$43.98 after having opened the day at $42.36 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $42.78. Other companies within the Technology sector that increased today were: Methode Electronics ( MEI), up 32.5%, Perceptron ( PRCP), up 25.0%, EGain ( EGAN), up 20.1% and ChinaNet Online Holdings ( CNET), up 17.5%.

Salesforce.com has a market cap of $25.7 billion and is part of the computer software & services industry. Shares are up 1.0% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday. Currently there are 24 analysts that rate Salesforce.com a buy, 1 analyst rates it a sell, and 4 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Salesforce.com as a hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, good cash flow from operations and solid stock price performance. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including deteriorating net income, disappointing return on equity and feeble growth in the company's earnings per share.

On the negative front, xG Technology ( XGTI), down 12.3%, Shanda Games ( GAME), down 10.6%, Plug Power ( PLUG), down 10.5% and Performance Technologies ( PTIX), down 9.2% , were all laggards within the technology sector with Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD) being today's technology sector laggard.
