BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY): Today's Featured Technology Winner

BlackBerry ( BBRY) pushed the Technology sector higher today making it today's featured technology winner. The sector as a whole closed the day up 0.7%. By the end of trading, BlackBerry rose $0.22 (2.1%) to $10.54 on light volume. Throughout the day, 16,107,500 shares of BlackBerry exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 25,494,200 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $10.05-$10.54 after having opened the day at $10.18 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $10.32. Other companies within the Technology sector that increased today were: RigNet ( RNET), up 18.8%, Mad Catz Interactive ( MCZ), up 18.5%, Trina Solar ( TSL), up 15.3% and Pulse Electronics ( PULS), up 15.0%.

BlackBerry Limited engages in the design, manufacture, and marketing of wireless solutions worldwide. BlackBerry has a market cap of $5.4 billion and is part of the telecommunications industry. Shares are down 11.5% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday. Currently there are 4 analysts that rate BlackBerry a buy, 12 analysts rate it a sell, and 9 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates BlackBerry as a sell. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its disappointing return on equity and weak operating cash flow.

On the negative front, Alvarion ( ALVR), down 24.1%, CounterPath Corporation ( CPAH), down 13.6%, China TechFaith Wireless Comm Tech ( CNTF), down 13.5% and Zoom Technologies ( ZOOM), down 8.8% , were all laggards within the technology sector with Alcatel-Lucent ( ALU) being today's technology sector laggard.
