Groupon Inc (GRPN): Today's Featured Internet Laggard

Groupon ( GRPN) pushed the Internet industry lower today making it today's featured Internet laggard. The industry as a whole closed the day up 0.8%. By the end of trading, Groupon fell $0.23 (-2.2%) to $10.35 on average volume. Throughout the day, 13,618,313 shares of Groupon exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 17,643,000 shares. The stock ranged in price between $10.21-$10.76 after having opened the day at $10.71 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $10.58. Other companies within the Internet industry that declined today were: Selectica ( SLTC), down 11.9%, Vipshop Holdings ( VIPS), down 6.8%, Jiayuan.com International ( DATE), down 6.1% and ChinaNet Online Holdings ( CNET), down 5.6%.

Groupon, Inc. operates as a local commerce marketplace that connects merchants to consumers by offering goods and services at a discount in North America and internationally. The company also offers deals on products for which it acts as the merchant of record. Groupon has a market cap of $7.0 billion and is part of the technology sector. Shares are up 117.7% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday. Currently there are 3 analysts that rate Groupon a buy, 2 analysts rate it a sell, and 16 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Groupon as a sell. Among the areas we feel are negative, one of the most important has been weak operating cash flow.

On the positive front, China Finance Online ( JRJC), up 21.2%, Taomee Holdings ( TAOM), up 16.9%, Renren ( RENN), up 15.4% and ChinaCache International Holdings ( CCIH), up 13.6% , were all gainers within the internet industry with eBay ( EBAY) being today's featured internet industry leader.
