Samsung Invitation Hints New Galaxy Devices

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) - When Samsung introduced the Galaxy S 4 smartphone in New York back in March it teased the fact that there would be more new items to announce in the coming months. We now know when that announcement is coming and we have a good idea what it will contain.

This morning, the company sent invitations to the second part of this year's announcement series called "Samsung Unpacked 2013, Episode 2" on Sept. 4th. The announcement is being made in Berlin at this year's IFA electronics/appliance industry trade show, with a subsequent live broadcasting event and first hands-on experience of the next GALAXY in Times Square.

Though Samsung didn't say what it would be announcing in the invitation, it's possible Samsung will introduce the third-generation Galaxy Note phablet (a smartphone with a screen nearly as large as a tablet). Predictions foretell a new Galaxy Note III with a 5.7-inch touchscreen, an eight-core processor and 3 GB of RAM.

It's also likely that the Galaxy Note III uses Google's ( GOOG) newest mobile operating system, Android 4.3.

There have also been rumors that the next Galaxy Note will actually be more than one phone. Some think Samsung will announce a series of different Galaxy Note models with a number of different screen sizes and configurations to be released in the coming months.

Since today's invitation mentions "the next Galaxy" and not the Galaxy Note by name, Samsung might also have another device to announce - a smartwatch. Back in March, Samsung officials mentioned the company was working on an Android smartwatch to compete with Apple's ( AAPL) rumored iWatch.

Fueling the rumors, a Samsung smartwatch design has reportedly just made its way through the U.S. Patent Office and a filing for the name "Galaxy Gear" has been spotted at the U.S. Trademark office.

Wireless-connected smartwatches are believed to be the next battleground in the battle personal electronics supremacy. Future Samsung and Apple designs will have to compete with smart wristwatch designs from Sony ( SNE) and Pebble which are have already reached the marketplace.
