USMD Holdings, Inc. ( NASDAQ: USMD), a physician-led integrated healthcare system, announced today its wholly owned subsidiary, USMD Cancer Treatment Centers, has partnered with Metropolitan Urological Surgeons, Urological Consultants and South County Urology to form Gateway Cancer Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Gateway Cancer Center is a state-of-the-art cancer center that offers both radiation and urologic oncology services in the same facility. With urologists and radiation oncologists working together at the same location, communication is optimized to cultivate better patient care. Gateway Cancer Center offers patients access to leading-edge technology including cone beam computed tomography (Cone Beam CT), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT—which treats prostate and genitourinary cancers). The Center provides cutting-edge equipment, combined with exceptional personalized care, which keeps the focus on putting patients’ well-being first. “The personal relationship that once characterized physician-patient interactions has been displaced by well-meaning third parties,” says Bruce Ellerin, MD, a radiation oncologist at Gateway Cancer Center. “Physicians affiliated with the Center create personalized treatment plans that are discussed in detail with the patient. This approach allows the patient and their physician to decide together the next steps to be taken.” Gateway Cancer Center’s patient-centric philosophy is well aligned with the mission of USMD. The physician-led healthcare company helped develop and will manage the radiation oncology facility. “Providing patients with the best possible outcomes is the heart of our mission at USMD,” says John House, MD, chairman and chief executive officer of USMD Holdings. “We believe a healthy one-on-one relationship between doctor and patient is absolutely vital to providing high-quality, personalized care that patients deserve. The deeply personal commitment to patient care displayed by the physicians and staff who are part of Gateway aligns with USMD and its mission. We are proud to partner with our St. Louis colleagues to give patients the compassionate quality care they deserve.”
