GE today announced Jiangsu Yonggang Group (YG Group) will install four of GE’s (NYSE: GE) Jenbacher cogeneration systems that will be fueled with blast furnace gas (BFG). The project in China is the world’s first gas engine cogeneration plant that will use BFG to generate cleaner power and heat for a steel mill. Powered by four of GE’s 1.97-megawatt (MW) J620 Jenbacher cogeneration units, the 7.88-MW combined heat and power (CHP) plant will offer a total efficiency of up to 83.5 percent to minimize the energy costs of YG Group’s steel mill. The project also will reduce 63,000 tons of CO 2 emissions per year at the mill. YG Group has developed into a large-scale integrated iron and steel enterprise, producing 5 million tons of steel. The company is committed to becoming more energy efficient by utilizing the steel mill’s process gases to achieve greater energy savings and reduced emissions. “GE is well-known around the world for its steel industry energy solutions.
