Motorola Touts New U.S. Designed Phone

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) - Google's ( GOOG) Motorola Mobility division has released a full-page ad for its upcoming "X phone" proudly stating that it's "Designed by you. Assembled in the USA".

The full-page ad in The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal is for the upcoming Motorola X smartphone, an all new Android design. Motorola doesn't reveal anything more about the phone except that it will be "the first smartphone you can design yourself". There is no explanation offered what that entails, though guesses include the possibility of users being able to customize all of their screens' features as well as changing the look and feel of their phone's exterior.

The phone may wind up including a 4.5-to-4.7 inch touchscreen, and potentially be powered by one of Qualcomm's ( QCOM)new 600 series mobile processors.

Today's ad also introduced Motorola Mobility's new, full-color logo - which now prominently features the words "a Google company" beneath the lower-case Motorola name.

Google purchased Motorola in January 2011, keeping the cell phone division and spinning-off the Motorola Solutions (modems and cordless home phone) business. The X phone will be the first Motorola design to include any Google branding.

Motorola hasn't officially announced the X phone or a release date but is asking those interested to sign=up for more information to be delivered via email.
