SAN JOSE, Calif., July 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON), the world's leading control networking platform provider, today announced that Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), the world-leading provider of communications technology and services, will provide E.ON Elnat Sverige AB (E.ON) with the latest version of Networked Energy Services (NES) Software and Element Manager in support of Ericsson's Smart Grid as a Service. Ericsson's service will cover the over 400,000 existing Echelon smart meters, providing new features including the ability to remotely upgrade the meters with new meter functionality and to monitor network conditions to prevent and predict outages. These network upgrades improve overall reliability and safety of the E.ON grid. The solution is an important step towards real-time big data measurements, supplying E.ON's customers with accurate and up to date information on energy consumption.
