Intel ( INTC) pushed the Electronics industry higher today making it today's featured electronics winner. The industry as a whole closed the day up 1.4%. By the end of trading, Intel rose $0.42 (1.7%) to $25.01 on light volume. Throughout the day, 29,263,886 shares of Intel exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 44,024,000 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $24.64-$25.09 after having opened the day at $24.71 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $24.59. Other companies within the Electronics industry that increased today were: Plug Power ( PLUG), up 24.9%, Advanced Photonix ( API), up 19.2%, Canadian Solar ( CSIQ), up 15.4% and Suntech Power Holdings ( STP), up 15.2%.

Intel Corporation designs, manufactures, and sells integrated digital technology platforms worldwide. The company operates through PC Client Group, Data Center Group, Other Intel Architecture, Software and Services, and All Other segments. Intel has a market cap of $122.5 billion and is part of the technology sector. The company has a P/E ratio of 12.3, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are up 19.5% year to date as of the close of trading on Friday. Currently there are 12 analysts that rate Intel a buy, 4 analysts rate it a sell, and 21 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Intel as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, attractive valuation levels, good cash flow from operations, expanding profit margins and notable return on equity. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had somewhat weak growth in earnings per share.

On the negative front, Uni-pixel ( UNXL), down 10.1%, Geospace Technologies ( GEOS), down 10.0%, Sutron Corporation ( STRN), down 5.3% and Oclaro ( OCLR), down 5.1% , were all laggards within the electronics industry with Broadcom Corporation ( BRCM) being today's electronics industry laggard.

For investors not wanting singular stock exposure, ETFs may be of interest. Investors who are bullish on the electronics industry could consider iShares Dow Jones US Technology ( IYW) while those bearish on the electronics industry could consider ProShares Ultra Short Semiconductor ( SSG).
