NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Gerdau (NYSE: GGB) hit a new 52-week low Friday as it is currently trading at $6.98, below its previous 52-week low of $7.02 with 1.7 million shares traded as of 10:46 a.m. ET. Average volume has been 5.7 million shares over the past 30 days.

Gerdau has a market cap of $12.5 billion and is part of the basic materials sector and metals & mining industry. Shares are down 20.5% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday.

Gerdau S.A. engages in the production and commercialization of steel products worldwide. The company has a P/E ratio of 6.1, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
