NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Realty Income Corporation (NYSE: O) hit a new 52-week high Wednesday as it is currently trading at $46.67, above its previous 52-week high of $46.65 with 172,831 shares traded as of 10:06 a.m. ET. Average volume has been two million shares over the past 30 days.

Realty Income has a market cap of $8.3 billion and is part of the financial sector and real estate industry. Shares are up 15.5% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday.

Realty Income Corporation engages in the acquisition and ownership of commercial retail real estate properties in the United States. The company leases its retail properties primarily to regional and national retail chain store operators. The company has a P/E ratio of 54, above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.

The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, solid stock price performance, good cash flow from operations and expanding profit margins.
