Last year over 6,400 images were sent out with CNW news releases. TORONTO, April 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Over the year we shared our favourite photos as part of our popular Photo of the Month blog series on Beyond the Wire. This year we launched a campaign that allowed the public to cast their vote for the best photo for 2012. We received thousands of votes and CNW would like to congratulate the Melanoma Network of Canada for winning the 2012 Photo of the Year. Transat A.T. Inc. and Red Bull Canada rounded out the top three photos of 2012 as finalists. The winning photo for the Melanoma Network of Canada features Canadian Olympic Ski Cross athlete Julia Murray, was sent out with a release that highlights the importance of wearing sunscreen in the winter. This photo was taken by Joern Rhode, and the award was accepted by Annette Cyr, President of the Melanoma Network of Canada. "We're very visual these days, so pictures really speak to people. We want everything sort of immediate, so pictures are really conveying the message" according to Cyr. The Transat A.T. Inc. photo features the modern-looking interior of a plane was sent out with a release to mark their 25th anniversary. The award was accepted by Debbie Cabana, Communications and Media relations Advisor. Red Bull Canada's photo was included with a release about the annual Red Bull Crashed Ice, Ice Cross Downhill World Championship event that was held in Quebec City, and was taken by Joerg Mitter. The award was accepted by Lubor Keliar, Director of Communications and Josée Laperrière, Communications Manager.
