Exxon Mobil ( XOM) was fined $1.7 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation for safety violations linked to an oil spill in the Yellowstone River in July 2011.
Sonic Corp. ( SONC), the drive-in restaurant chain, posted fiscal second-quarter earnings on Monday of $3.6 million, or 6 cents a share, up from year-earlier profit of $1.7 million, or 3 cents a share. Adjusted earnings in the quarter were 5 cents a share, in line with analysts' estimates. Revenue fell to $111.1 million from $115.1 million a year earlier; analysts forecast sales of $113.1 million. Sonic said it expects same-store sales in its current fiscal year to rise in the low single-digit range.
