Rite Aid announced today that it raised $5.9 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in 2012, exceeding the prior year’s campaign by 41% and making 2012 the highest single-year fundraising total in the drugstore chain's 18 years of support for the charity. The money raised by Rite Aid funds critical care, ground-breaking research and life-saving equipment at 95 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in communities served by Rite Aid. Since becoming a sponsor in 1994, Rite Aid has raised more than $56 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. “Rite Aid hit a fundraising milestone in 2012 by raising a record-breaking amount of vital funds for local children’s hospitals,” said John Lauck, president and CEO, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. “We are grateful for our long-standing partnership with Rite Aid and the amazing efforts of Rite Aid associates nationwide. On behalf of our member hospitals, we look forward to working together in 2013 and for many years to come, with the common goal of improving the lives of millions of children served by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year.” In addition to its annual Miracle Balloon campaign each spring, Rite Aid also raised funds through its first-ever mobile and social media campaign, which allowed customers to donate via mobile text messaging and the company’s Facebook page. Additional funds were raised through community fundraisers including now-annual events like the spring plant sale at the company’s Wilsonville, Ore., distribution center, a bowl-a-thon hosted by the Rite Aid in Poquoson, Va., and a fishing trip organized by Rite Aid associates in Mobile, Ala. And, each summer at the company’s headquarters in Camp Hill, Pa., members of Rite Aid’s management team help raise funds by washing cars and competing in various activities. “Each year, Rite Aid associates give their all when it comes to fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and this year, the results of their efforts were truly phenomenal,” said Ken Martindale, Rite Aid chief operating officer and president of The Rite Aid Foundation. “With the support of our customers, our associates raised a record-breaking $5.9 million for the children’s hospitals in the communities we serve. I want to thank them for their dedication to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and for once again, delivering on our core value of being a caring neighbor.”
Rite Aid supports the organization throughout the year, most recently in December, when Rite Aid associates visited 15 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals delivering gifts to children who were in the hospital over the holiday season. The company also worked with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Norfolk as part of its 50 th anniversary celebration last fall.Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) is one of the nation’s leading drugstore chains with more than 4,600 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia and fiscal 2012 annual revenues of $26.1 billion.
