NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- American Express (NYSE: AXP) hit a new 52-week high Monday as it is currently trading at $62.85, above its previous 52-week high of $62.76 with 142,061 shares traded as of 9:35 a.m. ET. Average volume has been 5.6 million shares over the past 30 days.

American Express has a market cap of $68.87 billion and is part of the financial sector and financial services industry. Shares are up 7.1% year to date as of the close of trading on Friday.

American Express Company provides charge and credit payment card products and travel-related services to customers worldwide. The company has a P/E ratio of 14, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
