For Bloomfield, Conn.-based Thomas Hooker, it took a big assist from Connecticut chocolatier Munson's Chocolates to make this incredibly sweet brew. Yes, yes, there's plenty of dark roasted malt in there to make it a worthy stout, but Thomas Hooker sweetens the pot by adding Munson's cocoa powder during the boiling portion of the brewing process. It then throws several pounds of cocoa nibs into the fermenter at the end to add aroma. The result is as decadent as you might imagine, which may scare off hardened stout lovers but should make it a Valentine's Day staple for beer lovers with a sweet tooth.
