NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- CarMax (NYSE: KMX) hit a new 52-week high Wednesday as it is currently trading at $40.17, above its previous 52-week high of $40.11 with 401,017 shares traded as of 11:21 a.m. ET. Average volume has been 1.9 million shares over the past 30 days. CarMax has a market cap of $8.85 billion and is part of the services sector and specialty retail industry. Shares are up 3.4% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday. CarMax, Inc., through its subsidiaries, operates as a retailer of used vehicles in the United States. It also sells vehicles that do not meet its retail standards to licensed dealers through on-site wholesale auctions, as well as sells new vehicles under franchise agreements. The company has a P/E ratio of 21.3, above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
