NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) hit a new 52-week high Friday as it is currently trading at $142.90, above its previous 52-week high of $142.87 with 4.7 million shares traded as of 3:47 p.m. ET. Average volume has been 1.6 million shares over the past 30 days.

PPG has a market cap of $21.34 billion and is part of the basic materials sector and chemicals industry. Shares are up 4.9% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday.

PPG Industries, Inc. manufactures and supplies protective and decorative coatings. The company has a P/E ratio of 17.5, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
