NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.B) hit a new 52-week high Thursday as it is currently trading at $94.35, above its previous 52-week high of $94.34 with 3.1 million shares traded as of 3:40 p.m. ET. Average volume has been 4.7 million shares over the past 30 days.

Berkshire Hathaway has a market cap of $103.17 billion and is part of the financial sector and insurance industry. Shares are up 4.6% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday.

Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. is a publicly owned investment manager. Through its subsidiaries, the firm primarily engages in the insurance and reinsurance of property and casualty risks business. Berkshire Hathaway was founded in 1889 and is based in Omaha, Nebraska. The company has a P/E ratio of 17.4, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
