For the eighth straight year, Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) has been awarded a perfect score in the 2013 Corporate Equality Index by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) as part of its Best Places to Work initiative. The ratings were announced today by HRC, the largest U.S. civil rights organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees, which has more than 1 million members and supporters across the United States. “Cummins is honored to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign for the eighth straight year,” said Tom Linebarger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Cummins. “Diversity is one of our core values, and diversity means our individual differences never have to be checked at the door. Earning a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index is a great affirmation of the work we do every day to create an inclusive work environment where all employees can reach their full potential.” The HRC’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI), introduced in 2002, provides an in-depth analysis and rating of large U.S. employers and their policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees. Businesses are rated based on their responses to the CEI survey. 889 employers were included in this year’s survey. The survey rates employers on non-discrimination policies, health insurance benefits for same sex domestic partners, availability of LGBT employee resource groups, and diversity training. Criteria have evolved over the years, and HRC is committed to maintaining rigorous, transparent and achievable standards, as well as tools to help companies meet the criteria. While its reviews are done in 2012, the rankings apply to 2013.
