NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Ingersoll-Rand (NYSE: IR) has been reiterated by TheStreet Ratings as a buy with a ratings score of B . The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its solid stock price performance, compelling growth in net income, attractive valuation levels, good cash flow from operations and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company shows low profit margins.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • Powered by its strong earnings growth of 282.14% and other important driving factors, this stock has surged by 53.66% over the past year, outperforming the rise in the S&P 500 Index during the same period. Turning to the future, naturally, any stock can fall in a major bear market. However, in almost any other environment, the stock should continue to move higher despite the fact that it has already enjoyed nice gains in the past year.
  • The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Machinery industry. The net income increased by 273.1% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from $86.20 million to $321.60 million.
  • Net operating cash flow has slightly increased to $429.90 million or 5.29% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, INGERSOLL-RAND PLC has also vastly surpassed the industry average cash flow growth rate of -45.01%.
  • The current debt-to-equity ratio, 0.44, is low and is below the industry average, implying that there has been successful management of debt levels. Although the company had a strong debt-to-equity ratio, its quick ratio of 0.75 is somewhat weak and could be cause for future problems.

Ingersoll-Rand Public Limited Company engages in the design, manufacture, sale, and service of a diverse portfolio of industrial and commercial products in the United States and internationally. Ingersoll-Rand has a market cap of $14.2 billion and is part of the industrial goods sector and industrial industry. The company has a P/E ratio of 14.4, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are up 54.9% year to date as of the close of trading on Friday.
