Goldcorp Inc. engages in the acquisition, development, exploration, and operation of precious metal properties. It primarily explores gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc. Goldcorp has a market cap of $36.68 billion and is part of the basic materials sector. The company has a P/E ratio of 24.3, above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are up 2.2% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday. Currently there are 14 analysts that rate Goldcorp a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and four rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Goldcorp as a hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, good cash flow from operations and expanding profit margins. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself, deteriorating net income and disappointing return on equity.

On the positive front, China Shen Zhou Mining & Resources ( SHZ), up 20.8%, US Silica Holdings ( SLCA), up 10.7%, Taseko Mines Ltd NPL ( TGB), up 10.5%, and China Gengsheng Minerals ( CHGS), up 10.4%, were all gainers within the metals & mining industry with Alpha Natural Resources ( ANR) being today's featured metals & mining industry leader.
