ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq:RFMD), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance radio frequency components and compound semiconductor technologies, today unveiled multiple leading-edge GaN-based CATV amplifiers, in conjunction with the SCTE Cable-TEC Expo in Orlando, FL. The new CATV amplifiers include the RFPD2940 – a best-in-class, high-power GaN-based CATV power-doubler amplifier, as well as a new family of GaN-based push-pull CATV amplifiers, led by the RFPP2870 and RFCM3080. RFMD's RFPD2940 GaN-based CATV power-doubler amplifier delivers unprecedented output power (+63dBmV) without compromising the critical linearity performance requirements of CATV applications. The superior output power of the RFPD2940 enables CATV network operators to upgrade existing systems to wider bandwidths, enabling higher data throughput while also reducing operating expenses. The RFPD2940 CATV power-doubler amplifier operates from 45MHz to 1000MHz, has 23dB gain at 1000MHz, features superior input and output return loss of -20dB, and delivers better than -73dB CTB and CSO performance. The RFPD2940 is housed in an industry-standard SOT-115J package and is available today for immediate sampling. RFMD's RFPP2870 and RFCM3080 GaN-based push-pull amplifiers are ideally suited to drive GaN-based final stage CATV power-doubler amplifiers. The RFPP2870 and RFCM3080 feature 28dB gain at 1003MHz, have excellent input and output return loss (-20dB typical), and deliver low distortion levels of -68dBc CTB and -75dBc CSO. The RFPP2870 is housed in an industry-standard SOT-115 package, and the RFCM3080 is housed in a miniature 11mm x 8.5mm multi-chip-module (MCM) surface mount package. RFMD is showcasing their new GaN-based CATV amplifiers at the SCTE Cable-TEC Expo in Orlando, Florida, October 17-19, in booth 2324.
