Carmike To Bring New “BIGD” Enhanced Experience With 80 Foot Screen To Colorado Springs Area Movie-Goers With Next Fall’s Opening Of A New Carmike Cinema 13 Entertainment Complex At Chapel Hills Mall

Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKEC), a leading DIGITAL cinema and 3D motion picture exhibitor, today announced the projected fall 2013 opening of a new Carmike Cinemas entertainment complex in the Chapel Hills Mall in Colorado Springs, CO.

The new theatre will have 13 screens with total seating for over 2,800 guests and will showcase our state-of-the-art “BIGD” auditorium, Carmike’s critically acclaimed premium theatre experience. The new facility will be equipped with auditoriums featuring stadium style seating with comfortable high back rocking luxury seats, retractable armrests and convenient cup holders. The Carmike 13 will also have large, wall-to-wall screens, as well as high-quality DLP DIGITAL projection and DIGITAL sound. Other components of the new theatre include an upscale lobby, multiple concession areas featuring Coca-Cola Freestyle drink centers, and one-stop ticketing and concessions stations - a unique design feature of the Carmike 13. Filmgoers can escape the elements, purchase their tickets and favorite concessions, and quickly move into their comfortable seats. The new complex will also feature special services for the visual and hearing impaired.

Carmike President and CEO David Passman stated, “We’re providing the ultimate entertainment experience that centerpieces large format DIGITAL with bigger screens, bigger sound, and luxurious theatre seating for cutting-edge presentation and the definitive enjoyment of our audiences. With the opening of the new complex, the Colorado Springs and Front Range area joins a select and growing group of communities across the nation offering Carmike theatregoers the exciting new “ BIGD” format.

The Chapel Hills Mall, a strategic high-traffic retail center known for an exciting variety of over 100 national, regional and local retailers and eateries, provides Carmike’s new theatre complex with an ideal location near the center of the community.

“Carmike’s leading edge complex is unique to the area and represents a huge leap forward in the entertainment options Chapel Hills Mall can offer to people in the Colorado Springs-Denver-Pueblo corridor and surrounding communities. Carmike Cinemas has been here with us for many years, and we applaud their leadership in bringing this state-of-the-art facility to our tenants and shoppers,” said Victoria Harley, General Manager for Chapel Hills Mall. “The new entertainment complex will be a significant amenity for Colorado Springs and the region and a key addition to our local economy. The Carmike 13 will greatly enhance the ‘mall-going experience’ for all of our valued patrons. Carmike’s existing 15-screen theatre will close its doors October 26, and we expect demolition to begin in early November. The Carmike 13, set to open next fall, will help make Chapel Hills Mall truly a ‘one-stop’ destination providing exceptional dining, shopping and entertainment for consumers of all ages and interests. We view Carmike’s investment in this property as a strong vote of confidence as we begin a new era of vitality and growth.”
