Throughout the day, 11.9 million shares of Comcast exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 12.6 million shares. The stock ranged in a price between $35.16-$35.87 after having opened the day at $35.29 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $35.13. Other companies within the Media industry that increased today were: Inuvo ( INUV), up 33.3%, ChinaNet Online Holdings ( CNET), up 10.7%, Radio One ( ROIA), up 9.7%, and Insignia Systems ( ISIG), up 7%.

Comcast Corporation provides entertainment, information, and communications products and services in the United States and internationally. The company's Cable Communications segment offers video, high-speed Internet, and voice services to residential and business customers. Comcast has a market cap of $74.36 billion and is part of the services sector. The company has a P/E ratio of 20.2, above the average media industry P/E ratio of 20.1 and above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are up 48.2% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday. Currently there are 18 analysts that rate Comcast a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and four rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Comcast as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its solid stock price performance, impressive record of earnings per share growth, compelling growth in net income, revenue growth and reasonable valuation levels. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company shows low profit margins.

On the negative front, Digital Cinema Destinations ( DCIN), down 13.2%, Charm Communications ( CHRM), down 10.4%, Envoy Capital Group ( ECGI), down 5.2%, and Dolan ( DM), down 4.5%, were all laggards within the media industry with Focus Media ( FMCN) being today's media industry laggard.

For investors not wanting singular stock exposure, ETFs may be of interest. Investors who are bullish on the media industry could consider PowerShares Dynamic Media ( PBS) while those bearish on the media industry could consider ProShares Ultra Sht Consumer Services ( SCC).
