NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Suncor Energy (NYSE: SU) has been reiterated by TheStreet Ratings as a buy with a ratings score of B- . The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, solid stock price performance, reasonable valuation levels and good cash flow from operations. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had sub par growth in net income.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • SU's revenue growth has slightly outpaced the industry average of 1.2%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 3.7%. This growth in revenue does not appear to have trickled down to the company's bottom line, displayed by a decline in earnings per share.
  • SU's debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.28 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. Along with the favorable debt-to-equity ratio, the company maintains an adequate quick ratio of 1.06, which illustrates the ability to avoid short-term cash problems.
  • Compared to its closing price of one year ago, SU's share price has jumped by 40.25%, exceeding the performance of the broader market during that same time frame. Regarding the stock's future course, although almost any stock can fall in a broad market decline, SU should continue to move higher despite the fact that it has already enjoyed a very nice gain in the past year.
  • Net operating cash flow has increased to $2,809.00 million or 24.84% when compared to the same quarter last year. The firm also exceeded the industry average cash flow growth rate of -5.27%.

Suncor Energy Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as an integrated energy company. The company has a P/E ratio of 11.4, below the average energy industry P/E ratio of 11.8 and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Suncor Energy has a market cap of $51.2 billion and is part of the basic materials sector and energy industry. Shares are up 14.9% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday.
