For the first time, DIRECTV was recognized by the FTSE Group (FTSE), the leading global index provider and pioneer in responsible investment, and added to its prestigious FTSE4Good Index Series. The independent FTSE4Good Policy Committee meets on a semi-annual basis and identifies businesses that meet globally recognized corporate responsibility standards. DIRECTV is the only television service provider to be added to this index at this review. The September FTSE4Good semi-annual review generated 21 new additions to the FTSE4Good Index Series from six countries, with DIRECTV being one of the new companies entering the index. In addition, for the first time, DIRECTV participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information. With a score of 91 out of 100, DIRECTV had the highest score of all 2012 first time respondents and one of the highest scores ever by a first time respondent. "We are seriously committed to operating all facets of our business in the most sustainable and environmentally responsible way possible," said Mike Palkovic, executive vice president, Services and Operations, DIRECTV. "While we are honored to be recognized by such prestigious organizations like FTSE and the CDP for our efforts, we know there is always more that can be done. We will continue to lead our industry in making smart environmental investments and human rights choices that will inevitably enable our customers to live more efficiently and help keep our planet as healthy as possible." CDP harnesses the power of market forces, including 655 institutional investors with assets of $78 trillion, to collect information from companies on their greenhouse gas emissions and assessment of climate change and water risk and opportunity. CDP now holds the largest collection globally of primary climate change and water data and puts these insights at the heart of strategic business, investment and policy decisions. Companies are scored on their climate change disclosure and high scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.
