NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) is trading at unusually high volume Tuesday with 5.3 million shares changing hands. It is currently at four times its average daily volume and trading down $2.92 (-9.5%) at $27.74 as of 3:26 p.m. ET.

Tesla has a market cap of $3.17 billion and is part of the consumer goods sector and automotive industry. Shares are up 7.4% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday.

Tesla Motors, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, and sells electric vehicles and electric vehicle powertrain components. The company offers Tesla Roadster, an electric sports car.
