NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- CGI Group (NYSE: GIB) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, solid stock price performance, reasonable valuation levels, good cash flow from operations and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had sub par growth in net income.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • GIB's revenue growth has slightly outpaced the industry average of 6.9%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 2.6%. This growth in revenue does not appear to have trickled down to the company's bottom line, displayed by a decline in earnings per share.
  • Compared to its closing price of one year ago, GIB's share price has jumped by 38.54%, exceeding the performance of the broader market during that same time frame. Regarding the stock's future course, although almost any stock can fall in a broad market decline, GIB should continue to move higher despite the fact that it has already enjoyed a very nice gain in the past year.
  • Net operating cash flow has significantly increased by 178.63% to $250.99 million when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, CGI GROUP INC has also vastly surpassed the industry average cash flow growth rate of 0.18%.
  • GIB's debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.29 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. Despite the fact that GIB's debt-to-equity ratio is low, the quick ratio, which is currently 0.53, displays a potential problem in covering short-term cash needs.

CGI Group Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides information technology (IT) and business process services in Canada, the United States, India, Europe, and the Asia Pacific. The company has a P/E ratio of 19.3, below the average internet industry P/E ratio of 20.5 and above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. CGI Group has a market cap of $5.88 billion and is part of the technology sector and internet industry. Shares are up 38.5% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday.
