NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Isle of Capri Casinos (Nasdaq: ISLE) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from sell to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, increase in net income and expanding profit margins. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including generally higher debt management risk, disappointing return on equity and a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • ISLE's revenue growth has slightly outpaced the industry average of 0.8%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 3.6%. Growth in the company's revenue appears to have helped boost the earnings per share.
  • The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Hotels, Restaurants & Leisure industry. The net income increased by 386.7% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from -$2.32 million to $6.66 million.
  • ISLE OF CAPRI CASINOS INC reported significant earnings per share improvement in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. This company has reported somewhat volatile earnings recently. But, we feel it is poised for EPS growth in the coming year. During the past fiscal year, ISLE OF CAPRI CASINOS INC reported poor results of -$0.46 versus $0.00 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($0.60 versus -$0.46).
  • The debt-to-equity ratio is very high at 6.01 and currently higher than the industry average, implying increased risk associated with the management of debt levels within the company. To add to this, ISLE has a quick ratio of 0.70, this demonstrates the lack of ability of the company to cover short-term liquidity needs.
  • Current return on equity is lower than its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a clear sign of weakness within the company. Compared to other companies in the Hotels, Restaurants & Leisure industry and the overall market, ISLE OF CAPRI CASINOS INC's return on equity significantly trails that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.

Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, develops, owns, and operates regional gaming facilities; and related dining, lodging, and entertainment facilities in the United States. The company has a P/E ratio of 54, above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Isle of Capri Casinos has a market cap of $243.7 million and is part of the services sector and leisure industry. Shares are up 36.2% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday.
